Piero Taruffi 'The Silver Fox' - Conclusion Robert Heelis concludes his article on the life of the 'Silver Fox': Italian racing driver of the 30s, 40s and 50s, Piero Taruffi. By the early 1950s, Taruffi was both managing the Gilera motorcycle team and competing in Formula One and important long-distance events such as the Mille Miglia. A frequent works driver for Lancia, Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz, he ended his career in F1 with a Maserati 250F drive at the Syracuse GP and in sports cars racing a works Ferrari, number 535, at the infamous 1957 Mille Miglia - which he won.
It was his last-ever race.
